Dr. Charles Johnson
Director and Founder, Texas A&M ArgiLife Genomics and Bioinformatics Service (TxGen)
Department of Genomics and Bioinformatics Science, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Texas A&M University
Director and founder of the Texas A&M AgriLife Genomics and Bioinformatics Service (TxGen), a multimillion-dollar research unit within Texas A&M AgriLife Research, part of the Texas A&M University System. TxGen was recently named a Center of Excellence by PerkinElmer, and added a second NovaSeq 6000 from Illumina Inc. The center conducts next generation sequencing and bioinformatics research with collaborators in 36 countries. Over the last 24 months worked with over 300 different groups from 96 universities and companies, resulting on more than 200 different species already sequenced (not counting metagenomic projects). One of the main accomplishments is the building of an ever-growing collaborative network of scientists across the world.
Dr. Johnson received his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University and has worked for more than two decades in genomics and bioinformatics research, both in the biotech industry and academia, and is responsible for the creation of six successful and increasingly complex research organizations.
